We have to eat. Due to 7 billion mouths to feed we are beyond returning to the days of hunter/gatherer. In the western world our food comes from industrial agriculture. Even organics come from industrial scale monocultures. Some of our energy needs can be met using the same farming methods as when farming wheat and canola. Also by using fat from sheep and cows. One argument is that aridable land that can be used for food production is being used to produce energy and essentially prop up an unsustainable inefficient system. That is, the use of cars and the practice of transporting simple things we use every day around the world instead of producing things locally.
